Language Training
The Center for Southeast Asian Studies coordinates a nationally-recognized language immersion program, the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI), which has been held on the UW-Madison campus since 2000. About one hundred people spend eight weeks studying nine languages of southeast Asia, including Thai. UW-Madison has been teaching Thai for 25 years. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels are offered through the Department of Languages and Cultures of Asia. A course that rotates each semester includes Thai linguistics, the Thai short story, Thai novel and Thai poetry. UW-Madison is the only campus in the U.S. that offers courses dedicated to Thai literature in this way. |
